The Art of Barbara Dunn Rowe

Artist

Art has always been a central part of my life. For many decades I have engaged in one form of creating or another — painting, throwing pottery and making ceramic sculpture. I taught art in the public schools of Florida and South Carolina. I was on the artists’ roster through the Arts Commission of South Carolina and did residency work. I graduated from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, with a BFA in 1967 under my major professor and mentor Robert R. Malone. I did teacher certification at the University of South Carolina in 1967-1968. Today I live in the country in Lugoff and work in my art studio that my husband built for me. I am constantly inspired by forms of nature —flowers, animals, insects and birds that live all around me. Face jugs with their bold expressions are an inspiration to the human based sculptures I create. I currently exhibit my work mostly in a three county area of Kershaw, Richland, and Sumter counties in S.C.
